How do you remove the multimedia interface and center console?

To replace the multimedia interface or MMI and center console on the Audi A6 C6 model years 2004 through 2010, you will need a plastic trim tool, a small flat head screwdriver, T20 and T25 TORX screwdrivers, and a ratchet with a 13 millimeter socket and small extension.

  1. Side trim: Remove the small round cap at the front of the side paneling as well as the bolt. Gently pull the side paneling off. Repeat this step for the opposite side of the console.
  2. Armrest: Remove the rear A/C vent. Disconnect the electrical connector behind the vent and remove the bolt in the back. The armrest will now lift out of the console.
  3. Center console: Remove the back of the center console by taking out the cup holder’s mat and bolt underneath. Lift out the cup holder. Remove the storage area’s mat and bolt underneath. After lifting the storage compartment, disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the rest of the console by prying off the paneling above the ashtray and removing the two bolts inside. Lift the ashtray by pushing the tip of the small flat head screwdriver into the slot at the bottom of the ashtray to release it. Take off the boot around the gear selector, then remove the two bolts at the rear sides of the console. Disconnect all the electrical connectors. Lift the center console up.
  4. MMI control panel: Remove the four bolts in the middle of the underside of the control panel. Next, remove the MMI control panel lining by carefully pulling the retaining clips. Unplug the MMI control panel from the center console.
