Recognizing What You Will Find in Non-Street Legal Race Cars

You might be impressed with how vast the auto racing world is. There are many racing tracks around the world where people can compete in an assortment of race events with their cars. You can participate in a car competition by getting a car racing vehicle, but you must watch for how well that new car is made for the event in question. Whatever your selection, you may find your ideal race car by searching the inventory at eBay, where race cars of multiple types are available in conditions ranging from new to used to certified pre-owned.

Determine the Type of Race You're Interested In

You must see that your race car is designed with a specific type of racing event in mind. The diverse world of motorsports includes several vehicles of note:

  • Formula - The wheels on your formula vehicle are outside of the main body. The challenge of formula racing often entails ensuring your car is designed to ideal standards. You can drive a Ferrari, Porsche, or any other high-end formula vehicle in a road racing competition.
  • GT - Grand touring or GT racing entails competing in cars with enclosed wheels. Dodge, Ford, Mazda, and BMW have been huge names in the GT world.
  • Endurance - This car is for a variant of GT racing where you and another driver would compete with others in a race that goes for hours on end. The 24-hour Le Mans race is the most famous endurance event.
  • Stock Car - A stock car has a chassis that is heavily reinforced and designed to withstand the pressure of driving on heavily banked ovals or circle track paths. Dodge and Chevrolet are popular entities in the stock car world, with NASCAR being the top championship organization in the field.
  • Drag Racing - You would require a narrow racer with an engine that accelerates quickly and handles an extensive G-force for drag racing. You will only travel about 200 to 400 meters at a time with the drag racer. The IHRA organizes many of these events.
  • Off-Road - Ford, Dodge, and Volkswagen often made off-road racing vehicles that have suspension features that can handle the bumps and shifts of an off-road track. The vehicles also include larger wheels in most cases.
Why Aren't These Vehicles Street Legal?

Naturally, it would be unusual to take race cars out on the open road. Race cars are not street legal for many reasons:

  • Such a car typically does not include a seat belt.
  • A car for racing does not require a license plate.
  • Some racing cars do not have all the necessary lights needed for driving purposes; this is often due to those cars being raced in the daytime in most cases.
  • Bumpers may not be possible on a dragster or another specialty model.
