Seadoo Personal Watercraft Exhaust

What makes the Sea-Doo personal watercraft (PWC) unique is that it does not use a propeller. Instead, an impeller-driven water jet connected to the exhaust system gives riders the feeling of having power underneath them. If you have any Sea-Doo model, you can replace the exhaust yourself and keep it running for many years to come.

Why are some PWC exhaust parts noted fresh water only?

If you want to rebuild the exhaust on your Sea-Doo PWC with used parts, then you may opt for those only used in fresh water. Even if you plan to use your PWC in brackish bodies, these components will usually have experienced much less wear and tear because of never having touched salt before. If you are a freshwater rider yourself, then you will want these parts since they will match your riding conditions.

What is the difference between a resonator and a muffler?

Most Sea-Doo personal watercraft do not have automobile-type mufflers on their exhaust systems. Some enthusiasts, however, add automotive mufflers to their Sea-Doos as aftermarket modifications. An exhaust resonator cancels out specific pressure waves emitted by the exhaust on your PWC. By canceling out these waves, your watercraft can reduce the amount of ambient noise coming out of the exhaust system. Sea-Doo watercraft have conservative muffler pieces that dull noise, but these parts work in concert with the exhaust resonators.

How many exhaust pipes does a personal watercraft require?

Most Sea-Doo models use a pair of exhaust pipes. One on the starboard side of the vessel and the other on the port side. There is a minimum distance between the two to ensure that they do not react if your PWC suddenly exudes excessive thermal exhaust. You will want to match the specific pipe your model uses to your PWC to make sure that your new parts are compatible with your watercraft.

Which accessories are needed to overhaul the exhaust thoroughly?

Ensure that you have the following personal watercraft accessories on hand if you need to completely rebuild the entire exhaust system on your Sea-Doo PWC:

  • Muffler
  • Exhaust resonator
  • Hull adapter
  • Gasket
  • Tailpipe
From what materials are Sea-Doo exhaust hoses made?

While you can find personal watercraft parts made from a variety of materials from third-party manufacturers, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) Sea-Doo exhaust pipes are always made from high-impact plastic with an excellent thermal temper. A few Sea-Doo pipes feature a small bit of chrome on the ends for aesthetic appeal.
