Snowboard Bindings

Many people in the world enjoy participating in winter sports such as snowboarding and skiing. There are numerous options for snowboard bindings. It is important to know which bindings will suit your setup, and how to properly install new gear.

What are the different types of snowboard bindings?

Snowboard bindings come in two categories. Strap-in bindings are the most common style; they feature a strap across the toe and across the ankle. The second style of bindings are called rear-entry bindings, or speed-entry bindings, and are designed to focus on comfort. The hinged back on rear-entry bindings allows the rider to simply step into the board for maximum ease.

What are some common brands that manufacture snowboard bindings?

  • Burton
  • Union
  • Flow
  • Flux
  • Ride
  • K2
  • Salomon

How do you attach snowboard bindings?

  • Pick the front bind position; this will be the left binding if you ride in a regular stance or the right bind if you ride goofy.
  • Place both the binding and disk over the center screw holes at the front of the snowboard. Position the bind so that there will be an equal amount of snowboard over the front of the toe and behind the boot heel.
  • Screw in the front screw loosely.
  • Tighten all screws and ensure the binding is in the proper position.
  • Mount the rear binding in the same fashion that you mounted the front binding, but be sure to set the angle at -6°, pointed backwards.

How do you determine if your bindings will fit your boot?

Snowboard bindings can come in small, medium, and large sizes and come in a variety of custom colors. It is very important to be sure that your snowboard bind will properly fit your boots. When testing out new snowboard bindings, place your boot in to test the size. Straps should fit comfortably, not too tight or loose, and boots should not hang off of the bindings. The heel should be comfortable and the boots should allow wiggle room.

How do you determine if your snowboard bindings will fit your snowboard?

There are a variety of different mounting options available. Most companies manufacture universal disks to fit every type of snowboard. The most common mounting styles are the 2 by 4(two by four bolt holes), the 4 by 4(same as the 2 by 2, but with 4 bolt holes), the 3D, and the Channel Style (commonly seen with Burton) mounting patterns. Assess your snowboard situation and consult a professional before purchasing and attaching some new gear of your own.
