Wholesale Bullion

While some people may prefer to pick up bullion in small quantities, most serious investors know that wholesale bullion provides more return on their investment. The idea behind wholesale purchases of anything is that when you buy larger quantities of any commodity it is less expensive for the seller and so they can pass some of those savings on to you. Given the high value of bullion, wholesale purchases are a good idea whenever possible.

What's Different About Buying Bullion Wholesale?

The simple answer is quantity; but as with all simple answers, it is only simple on the surface there are a number of factors you need to consider before buying wholesale bullion:

  • Mints: In theory, the easiest way to buy wholesale bullion should be to buy direct from the mints that strike the coins. In practice, most mints have strict limitations on who can buy from them wholesale rendering it difficult for individuals to take advantage.
  • Storage: Bullion is both easily transportable and often untraceable, so always make sure you have a secure storage location before buying it.
  • Numismatic Coins: Don't consider the numismatic, or collectible, value of bullion coins when making a purchase. You're not buying for numismatic reasons, but rather for investment, thus reducing your costs through bulk.
  • How You Buy It: You buy wholesale bullion using bank transfers versus credit cards or PayPal debits, which means lower fees.

What are Monster Boxes?

One of the best ways to buy large quantities of bullion is through the purchase of monster boxes. These large boxes offer up to 500 ounces of bullion in a single package and are often available packaged by the relevant mint. Here are some common monster boxes:

  • American Silver Eagle: Each monster box contains 500 1 ounce Silver Eagle $1 coins. (Note that boxes from the San Francisco Mint normally carry a higher premium).
  • Silver Maple Leaf: Carrying 500 $5 Canadian Maple Leaf coins.

Investing in Wholesale Bullion

Wholesale bullion makes an excellent investment but it's rarely a good idea to make it the focus of your entire investment strategy. Instead, consider using it as a way to reduce risk and temper market volatility.
