Volkswagen Passat engines have been fabricated for a seemingly countless number of quality vehicles since 1973. Over the past many decades, they have evolved and kept pace with the auto industry's advances in engineering. Passat made both gasoline and diesel engines. The earliest gasoline versions of this motor top out at 115 horsepower and the diesel ones at 69 horsepower. However, for the 3rd generation of Passat cars, Volkswagen rolled out the Passat 2.8-liter V6 4AT diesel and the Passat 2.8-liter V6 5MT gasoline engines, both of which achieve 174 horsepower. In 2005, a 2.0-liter gasoline-powered turbo engine hit the scene. These are the different sizes of Passat engines:

• 1.3 to 1.8 L - The 1.3-liter Passat engines aren't very powerful. The 4MT only puts out 60 horsepower.
